VARSHARITUCHARYA (MONSOON REGIMEN)

Mid-July to mid-September

In rainy season (Varsha Ritu) Humors (Doshas) gets aggravated. The vitiation of Doshas will weaken the digestive fire (Jatharagni) and will lead to various diseases. It is required to take the necessary measures to mitigate imbalanced Doshas and improve the digestive activity. Ayurveda recommends Panchakarma therapies to clean up the body and bring the Dosha balance.

Food recommendations in Varsha Ritu:

  1. One should use old grains, meat juices processed with spices, meat of animals of desert like lands, soup of pulses, wine prepared from grapes and fermented decoctions, which are old and medicated, rain water or water from deep wells (well boiled) for drinking.

  2. If there is no sunlight, it is preferable to have foods predominantly sour, salty, unctuous and dry, mixed with honey (for easy digestion).

  3. It is better to avoid food that causes Vata and Pitta imbalance such as food having bitter, hot and astringent tastes, potato, food items that are heavy to digest, frozen food stuff, ice creams, oily food stuff etc.

Moving about on foot, river water, sleeping during daytime, exertion and exposure to sun are contraindicated during this season.
